Ziggy Geike
Journeyman Make Up Artist
October 5, 1930- January 4, 2024
Ziggy Siegfried Geike joined our union in November of 1965, shortly after immigrating from Germany in 1964. He and his family landed in New York, and continued on to California. He came here to work for Mr. Corsillo, and did side work making mustaches for Max Factor. Through the assistance of Union member, Werner Keppler, he met and was hired by Claude Thompson, the head of the Make Up Department at NBC Studios. He worked on numerous television shows, from "HR Puffenstuff" to Monty Halls "Let's Make Deal" " Laugh In" & "Little House on the Prairie" to name a few. He worked with countless actors from the golden age of film like Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlton Heston & Burt Reynolds. There were so many more that time and space does not allow to list. He worked with Make Up Greats like Stan Winston, the Westmores, and John Chambers.
He opened Ziggy’s Creation in Make Up and Hair in Van Nuys, California with his wife Christa, who worked countless hours by his side. "A-List" actors would personally come to his studio for fittings for custom wigs and hairpieces for film and private use. Also, too many to list. He also made wigs for cancer patients and others with illnesses or accidents that caused hair loss.
Retired in 1996, Ziggy was a great family man who created wonderful lives for his wife Christa, daughter Marion and son Mike. His dedication to his craft and to his family is something to admire.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Christa, son Mike, grandsons Tyler & Justin, daughter Marion (Bob) granddaughter Christina (Jeramia), granddaughter Jessica (Darby) , and of course his 5 Great Grandchildren, Kai, Ivy, Lillian, Emilia and Dean. He was very loved and will be deeply missed.
