Although she passed her test with "better than a passing mark," Susie Germaine was actually too young to be sworn in, so they made her wait one month until her 21st birthday when she became a member of Local 706 in 1962.  A few years ago she was recognized for 50 years of membership, and was honored at the Alex Film Society in Glendale during a retrospective of the film Chinatown.

Susie Germaine has approximately 90 credits to her name and is known for her legendary styling, both for period and contemporary work.  Outspoken and direct but constructive and thoughtful, she never backed down from a challenge nor an argument with a producer, she set a standard for everyone in her craft.  Known for commanding "better conditions" and innovative screen credits, Germaine was not only one of the "Big 5" hair stylists who were hired for all of the biggest and best shows of the 1970s, 80s and 90s, but she was also personal stylist for Barbra Streisand, Faye Dunaway, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Jackson, Goldie Hawn and Jeff Bridges.  She truly was a "Hair Stylist to the Stars,"  a style influencer long before the term became used in social media.

She was a star herself. Talented, stylish, sassy and much loved, that was Susie Germaine. She received a Primetime Emmy nomination for her work on Backstairs at the White House, and was also nominated for a Hollywood Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Award in 2001.  She is known for Chinatown, 1941, The Three Musketeers, Network, Nine to Five, Addams Family Values, The Mirror has Two Faces, Beowulf and The Cell, plus television  series Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

Susie and Barbara Lorenz developed the professional hair product line Lorenz-Germaine. She was twice elected to the 706 Executive Board and was involved in developing the qualifications for the Journeyman test. Ms. Germaine was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Susan Gerrmaine is survived by her children, Tim McArdle and Candice Germaine and grandchildren Danielle Susan Morritz and Emily Jean Tagliere. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Bethany Bible Church, 200 Bethany Ct., Thousand Oaks, CA. 91360.
