Caryl was an actively involved union member and participant in many events supporting Local 706. Caryl was elected to be Recording Secretary starting January 1, 1976, she held this position for two terms- 6 years. Caryl was also an active participant in the committee that put together our 1975 Deb Star Ball. She represented our Local at many of the AFL-CIO Trade shows that were held here in Los Angeles. She was an active member of the Constitution Committee in helping to revise and update our Constitution in 1978.
She gave back to her Union, offering to train fellow hairstylists. She taught and co-taught many classes to the hairstylists of Local 706. She co taught with Adele Taylor the ‘Iron Curling Seminar’, and a group of hands on Workshops; Iron Curling, Period Hair, finger waving & Men’s haircutting, Lace front Wig application with continued information about working with Switches and falls. She supported and loved her Union.
Caryl had joined Local 706 in December 1969. She was Department Head Hair Stylist on "Wally and the Beaver", "Witches of Eastwick" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". She was also the Department Head on the sequel to "Wally and the Beaver"- "Leave it to Beaver", and "Moonlighting". She worked on the TV Movie- "The Rockford Files- A Blessing in Disguise", "Hook", "Evening Shade", "Charles in Charge", and the "Bad News Bears". She worked steadily thru the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. She was nominated 3 times for an Emmy; for her work on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", "Star Trek: Voyager" & "Dr Quinn Medicine Woman". She won the Gold on "Dr Quinn Medicine Woman". Caryl finally hung up her curling iron and took an Honorable Withdrawal in 1999.
There will be a tribute memorial service for Caryl on April 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM. All are welcome.
