Marjorie Maret-Sherrard made her final graceful exit at 103, after a remarkable life lived in full color. Born in Vancouver in 1921 and a proud U.S. citizen by 1932, she found her way from Hollywood High School into the heart of the entertainment industry. When she lived in Hollywood she would often sit and model for her neighbor, makeup artist Charlie Gemora. That’s probably where the make-up bug bit her.

She married makeup artist Harry Maret and welcomed daughter Donna in 1943, continuing a family legacy of artistic talent. Marjorie mastered the subtle and often overlooked craft of body makeup, sculpting abs, camouflaging bruises, and creating movie magic behind the scenes. From The Love Boat to The Carol Burnett Show and working for years on Young and Restless wielding her brushes with quiet genius. Cher and her legendary wardrobe designer Bob Mackie appreciated when Marjorie did Cher’s body makeup—because she never got any make-up on the wardrobe.

After applying in 1956, she became a union member in 1969, and by 1973, a Journeyman with Local 706 and respected Executive Board member. Her second marriage to costumer and Local 705 President Micky Sherrard made them a true Hollywood power couple.

Marjorie retired in 1992, but her legacy never faded. She mentored countless artists with honesty, humor, and heart—and always with a touch of glamour. More than her résumé, she was a warm soul who could fix a bruise—and your confidence—in ten minutes flat.

Here’s Marjorie: a behind-the-scenes legend who made stars shine and the rest of us believe in a little magic movie. May her next act be just as luminous.
