James Scribner
Makeup Artist
(1944-2023)

James Scribner, a respected figure in the makeup artistry world, passed away on September 19, 2023. He began his journey in the entertainment industry by joining Local 706 in 1977 after working in NBC's makeup department. His career spanned over three decades.

Jim’s talents graced the silver screen in countless iconic productions, including "Predator," "Planet of the Apes (2001)," and "Lethal Weapon 4." His dedication and artistry were recognized in 2007 when he received the Emmy Award for his outstanding work on the acclaimed television show, "Deadwood: The Movie."

According to his brother Bob, "Jim was always fun to work with. He always came to work in his beat-up VW bug, and we all knew he was coming. He loved that car." His sister shared that the siblings, James, Bob, and Gail, were remarkably close. The three of them worked in the film business, along with Bob’s wife Marty, and Gail remembers him as a talented artist. Laurel Van Dyke, his niece, fondly reminisced about her cherished childhood moments spent with James.

After retiring from the local, James transitioned to a quieter life in Oregon. He loved sharing stories about his chickens, cats, and goats with his brother. He spoke to Bob and Gail often, and his last words were, "I love you."

He is survived by his brother Robert, sister Gail, beloved children Jimmy, Thomas, Billy, and five grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
