Charlene Ostermann
(4/14/41 – 2/25/22)
Journeyman Makeup Artist
My family and the Ostermann’s, have been close friends for over 50 years. When we heard of Charlene’s passing, I volunteered to write a tribute to Charlene.
Charlene Ostermann was a Local 706 Makeup Artist, and had joined our Local as a Body Makeup Artist in 1979 while working at NBC. She was upgraded to Entry Level Makeup Artist status in 1990 when she qualified to upgrade to the Industry Experience Roster and then became a Journeyman in 1992. In March of 2000, Contract Services made the decision to move all Body Makeup Artists to full Makeup Artists on the Roster. Charlene continued to be at the forefront of the Body Make up Artistry work and worked continuously plying her Body Makeup Craft. She also earned one Emmy Nomination and a Local 706 Guild Award for Outstanding Makeup for a Mini Series, Movie or a Special - 2000, on the TV Movie, "Geppetto".
"Charlie", as many of her friends called her, along with her husband Bob, were our family’s long-time friends and travel companions on many cruises and road trips. Charlene also was a great working make up artist ‘partner’ on some of the productions I department headed. She was my right hand for two seasons on the series, "Andy Richter Controls the Universe", and she also, along with her husband, Bob, who also is a makeup artist, helped me on big days, along with quite a few 706 artisans on the feature "Sorority Boys". Charlie was such a reliable team player, and a fine and talented makeup artist. She was more than a friend, she and her husband were like family, and are loved by so many. Her passing has left my wife and I, along with her many friends, with a large void in our hearts. We will miss her.
She is survived by Bob, her husband of 58 years, Sunee, a Daughter-in-Law, two sons, Scott and Bruce, 3 Grandsons, Railey, Preston and Ryan, and a Granddaughter, Sabrina.
